As the voice of Michigan psychiatry, MPS works to advance the profession and promote the highest quality care for patients and their families. Through its advocacy efforts, MPS educates the public about mental health, psychiatry and successful evidence-based treatments. Advocacy initiatives encompass legislative, regulatory, and political affairs.
MPS tracks bills that are of interest to psychiatry in Michigan. Our issue areas are usually within the general categories of health, mental health, insurance, professional regulation, community health, judiciary, tort law, corrections and juvenile justice. We are sometimes called upon by Legislators and policy staff to give input in any of a number of areas. More often, we must be vigilant to ensure that our concerns are on the table prior to the advancement of bills through the legislative process.
The Michigan Legislature provides online bill tracking for the public to follow the status of bills.
MPS bill tracking tables for this and previous legislative sessions are accessible in the Members-only section.
